About us

Welcome to Koinophobic!  We are an affordable boutique launched online in 2016 bringing you trendy styles that will never leave you feeling ordinary! From clothing and accessories to home decor...we are on a mission to bring you those MUST have items! Whether you prefer to shop online or in-store, Koinophobic has you covered!  Our first storefront location opened in Simpsonville SC in September 2017.

Let's start by explaining that name!  Koinophobia (KOY-NO-PHOBIA) is derived from the greek word "koinos" meaning common, so it is the fear that you are ordinary or that you have lived an ordinary life.  While you're living it, your life is a continuous string of experiences, some exhilarating and some tumultuous, that all seem to go so quickly.  As you look back on the life you have lead, the decisions you have made, and the paths you have taken....it's easy to wonder where the time went, what you could have done but just didn't, or what could have been.  Everybody wants to look back and feel that their life is beautiful, interesting, full of fulfilled dreams and aspirations, that you made a difference....rather than mundane, and ordinary.  YOU are in charge of your life, and it is only as ordinary as you make it.  You don't need the perfect body to put on the perfect dress, or have the biggest house to have the coziest home.

Shannon Hume

I am Shannon Hume, and I am proud to say I am a koinophobic!  I don't want my life to pass me by without making it as extraordinary as I possibly could.  I am a stay-at-home mom who's days are filled with toys, cartoons, spills, messes, tantrums, and arguments I can never win (toddlers always know best!)  I enjoy sewing and making custom vinyl decals in my free-time.  I LOVE being able to be home with my children and thank my amazing husband for providing me with that opportunity.  I have always been driven to work, but found myself saying "be patient...you will get back to it when they go to school!"  And let's be honest, I only feel the need to work so that I can go shopping!  Well I couldn't shake that entrepreneurial bug and decided that life is to short to wait when you can have the best of both worlds now!  So I decided to start my own business where I can work right here in my own home, relish those moments with my children, and feed that drive to work at the same time.  And at the same time feed my shopping addiction!
